Wedding at Quinta do Convento da Visitação | Marta e Diogo

If you’re planning your wedding at Quinta do Convento da Visitação in 2026 or at any other venue in Portugal and you’re looking for a natural and timeless approach, get in touch. It would be a pleasure to hear your story.

There are weddings that unfold calmly — no rush, no skipped steps — and Marta and Diogo’s was exactly like that.

They met in 2020 and, since then, built a solid relationship with time, intention, and a lot of mutual understanding. The proposal happened in the summer of 2022, in Cabanas de Tavira — a place that was already special to them and became even more meaningful.

A few months later, they called me to photograph their wedding. When we met, I immediately sensed something essential for my type of photography: real chemistry and an effortless connection. The kind that doesn’t need to be forced. For someone working in documentary wedding photography, that’s gold.

Church of Nossa Senhora da Piedade of Merceana

The ceremony took place at Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Piedade da Merceana, also known as Igreja da Merceana. It’s about 15 minutes from the venue, which makes the day’s logistics much easier.

It’s a church with a strong historical presence, full of details that create a solemn atmosphere without losing a sense of closeness. Marta’s entrance was one of those moments that calls for silence — not because anyone demands it, but because everyone feels it.

During the ceremony, there were contained emotions, subtle smiles, and many knowing glances. These are the moments when documentary photography makes sense: capturing what is truly happening, without staging anything.

After the ceremony, we headed to Quinta do Convento da Visitação, in the municipality of Alenquer, for the continuation of the wedding celebration.

Marta and Diogo handled all the planning themselves. And anyone who has been through it knows: it’s no simple task. There are dozens of invisible decisions that guests may never notice, but that make all the difference in the final result. Choosing the venue was probably the hardest one. They visited several spaces, but when they saw the Convento, it just felt right.

Why have a wedding at Quinta do Convento da Visitação?

A wedding at Quinta do Convento da Visitação takes place in a venue full of history. Set in a former convent, it preserves original architectural elements that give it a very distinctive character — cloisters, stone walls, inner courtyards and an atmosphere that combines heritage and nature.

The space offers different settings all in one location: wide outdoor areas for the cocktail hour, well-kept gardens, more secluded corners, and rooms prepared to host dinner and the party. This variety allows the wedding to unfold in distinct moments throughout the day, without the need for travel between locations.

Another important point is the natural surroundings. Located in a quiet area of Alenquer, the venue allows couples to celebrate away from the noise of the city, with open views and natural light that works beautifully in photography — especially towards the end of the day.

For Marta and Diogo, it made sense because of the combination of history, versatility, and the feeling of retreat. For me, as a photographer, it’s a space that allows the story of the day to be told through different settings and rhythms.

After the wedding at Quinta do Convento da Visitação

For their honeymoon, they chose something completely different: Tanzania and Zanzibar. They told me the safari was a remarkable experience, and the days in Zanzibar were the perfect balance between adventure and rest.

A combination that, according to them, worked really well.

As a documentary wedding photographer, I always aim to tell the story of the day as it unfolds — without interfering too much, but paying attention to everything.

Marta and Diogo’s wedding at Quinta do Convento da Visitação was exactly that: genuine, calm and full of meaning. One of those days that stays in memory because it never tried to be anything other than what it already was.
