Andreia and Tiago’s wedding was the last one I photographed in 2021 and it took place at Quinta do Torneiro in Paço de Arcos, a stone’s throw from Lisbon.
Andreia and Tiago chose to have both photo and video with Lourenço Wedding Photography, which means that the team was made up of me and the videographer. Interestingly, even though we’ve both photographed literally hundreds of weddings each, it was out first time shooting at Quinta do Torneiro! The surprise even greater when we discovered such a photogenic and welcoming venue right on our doorstep.
Andreia and Tiago
Andreia and Tiago got to me through the reference of a mutual friend. I liked it when they told me their wedding date, in mid-December. I have always liked weddings in December, there is a Christmas vibe and it is nice to be indoors as it makes for a more intimate party.
As I got to know them better, I realized why they chose the date: after 7 years of dating, Tiago asked Andreia to marry him while they were setting up the Christmas tree! I was fortunate enough to have spend some time with them in the Summer, in Figueira da Foz. For me it’s always important to get to know my couples better before the wedding so that I get to know them, their interests and their friends better.
Despite being very busy doctors, Andreia and Tiago managed to find the time to plan their wedding single handedly. Between work and emergencies, it’s not easy to find the time and energy to plan a wedding, but they did – and it was a wedding that will forever stay in my heart!
Let’s start with a little summary of the wedding day.

An Autumn Wedding
“Wedding should happen in the Summer so it is warm and dry!”, I’ve heard countless times! But more often than not, it is too hot and sunny in the summer, with no one being comfortable in the hottest hours. On the other hand the nights are warm and it is nice to be outside.
However, Autumn Weddings are probably my favorites. The days are shorter, but on the other hand the party seems to last longer! The mornings are cold and the afternoons are usually warm, but not hot. The sun is also lower in the sky and that helps with the quality of the light.

Being recommended by friends isn’t always great!
Let me explain. I mentioned earlier that Andreia and Tiago came to me through a recommendation of a mutual friend. It’s something that happens regularly and that I’m very grateful for, but also a bit apprehensive.
Over the last few years I have been developing my style of documentary photography. It’s a different style of photography where I strive to capture timeless images, but that also means it is different from the norm – less than 2% of wedding photographers shoot in this documentary style. I wrote about this in my blog page: “The 3 styles of wedding photography to choose the photographer”.
Because it is different from the norm, it can happen that the couple don’t identify with this modern and more candid way of telling their story. When the couples find my following a search for this type of style, I know they’re in the right place. However, in they get to my by recommendations, it may not be so.
After the initial meeting with Andreia and Tiago I was happy to realize that I was the right photographer for them! They started by telling me that they didn’t want any posed photos, instead preferring the more candid approach.

Quinta do Torneiro’s Autumn colours
It was such a great pleasure to photograph at Quinta do Torneiro, it such an authentic and beautiful venue. At the end of the day, the warm color of the sunset accentuated the autumn colors, which are wonderful!

The Honeymoon
Andreia and Tiago went to Kenya for their honeymoon. They told me they highly recommend it: they went swimming, saw starfish and went on a safari! From now on, that trip is on my bucket list!
