Wedding at Quinta da Grilla | Catarina & Afonso

If you are planning your wedding at Quinta da Grilla in 2026 (or in the coming years), this wedding will give you a good idea of what it is like to celebrate in this venue in Alenquer.

Catarina and Afonso’s wedding was intense, emotional and deeply heartfelt. A day where faith, family, and friendship played a central role — exactly as they had imagined.

.

Getting Ready in Alenquer

Afonso got ready at High Villa in Alenquer, surrounded by his groomsmen. The atmosphere was relaxed, with that familiar mix of light nerves and excitement that fills the hours before the ceremony.

Catarina stayed at Largo da Rainha Guesthouse, right next to the church. She was joined by her bridesmaids — including her two younger sisters — as well as her parents and grandparents.

It was an emotionally charged morning, but always lively. Laughter, tears, and that contagious energy of people who are genuinely happy to be there.

Before heading to the church, we did a special first look: the bride revealed herself to her bridesmaids. A moment just for them. Screams, tight hugs, and so much connection. These are the moments where documentary photography truly makes sense.

Ceremony at Igreja da Merceana

The ceremony took place at Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Piedade da Merceana.

It was a long and deeply heartfelt celebration. Catarina and Afonso are very religious, and that was reflected in every detail. The priest had a close connection to the family, which made the ceremony even more personal and meaningful.

There were moments of absolute silence, long glances, and genuine emotion — not only from the couple, but from everyone present.

Quinta da Grilla

The reception took place at Quinta da Grilla, also in Alenquer.

The cocktail hour was simple, exactly as the couple wanted. No excess, just a focus on people and time spent together. After the cocktail, there was a particularly special moment: Catarina and Afonso read their vows to each other in a private space, with only the photographers and videographers present. An intimate exchange, away from the guests’ eyes, but full of meaning.

Why have a wedding at Quinta da Grilla?

A wedding at Quinta da Grilla takes place on a historic wine estate in the Alenquer region, surrounded by vineyards and natural landscape. The rural setting, with open views and a peaceful atmosphere, creates a true sense of retreat — ideal for those looking to get married away from the pace of the city.

The venue combines tradition with contemporary adaptation. It offers spacious outdoor areas for civil ceremonies and cocktail hour, well-kept gardens, and indoor spaces prepared to host dinner and the party comfortably.

Another strong advantage of a wedding at Quinta da Grilla is the exclusivity of the venue on the day of the event, allowing the celebration to unfold with complete privacy. For couples who value a personalised wedding, where each moment can be experienced with time and intention, this venue offers exactly that flexibility.

From a photographic perspective, the surrounding vineyards, the late afternoon light in Alenquer, and the estate’s architecture create different backdrops throughout the day — helping to tell the story in a complete and natural way.

During the entrance to the reception and throughout dinner, Catarina and her bridesmaids set the tone for the party — singing, dancing, and celebrating with the spontaneous joy of someone who has always dreamed of this day.

There were many speeches. Between smiles and tears, it became clear just how loved this couple is.

The unexpected moment at the wedding at Quinta da Grilla

Just when we thought we had seen it all, Catarina surprised everyone.

Before the first dance, she quietly slipped away with her bridesmaids to one of the rooms at the venue. A hairstylist was waiting for her. Catarina had long hair — and decided to cut it to shoulder length right there, on her wedding day.

It was a collective shock.

The bridesmaids moved between disbelief and excitement, eager to see the groom’s reaction. We went down to the dance floor. When Afonso saw Catarina’s new look, his smile said everything.

Their first dance was intense, light, and completely theirs. After that, the dance floor filled up and the celebration continued, surrounded by the people they love most.

As a documentary wedding photographer, this is exactly what I look for — real stories, unrepeatable moments, and unexpected decisions (like cutting your hair before the first dance).

If you’re planning your wedding at Quinta da Grilla and are looking for a natural approach, focused on emotions rather than aesthetics alone, get in touch. It would be a pleasure to hear your story and tell it in an honest and timeless way.
