Rose and Fellyph decided to have their wedding at Our Quinta, a wedding venue located near Lisbon, Portugal.

Rose & Fellyph
Rose & Fellyph are from Holland and Brazil, respectively. They met on a surfing trip on the west coast of Ireland when they were both living there. At the time Fellyph was learning English, so most of the talking came from Rose. But they kept in touch while in Ireland and when Fellyph went back to Brazil. When he returned to Ireland, they met up and started dating after.
After 5 years in Ireland they moved to Porto. On the day before the Covid lockdown started, they took a wine trip in the Douro region of Portugal. That’s when Fellyph proposed to Rose, after dinner at a charming family winery. As everyone was busy getting their groceries for the lockdown, they walked down to the Ribeira area to enjoy the last night of live music. It was a Friday 13th, which to some might sound like a day for bad luck – but not for them! They realised 13 is an important number for them: they met on the 13th, left Ireland on the 13th, got engaged on the 13th – and that’s why they decided to get married on 13th October (2022)! By then they would be living in the Algarve.
This moving around shows their thirst for adventure. Even though Rose likes to plan things and Fellyph likes to go with the flow, they are both curious about different cultures and like to learn from different visions of the world.

Ceremony at Quinta to Casal Novo
Rose and Fellyph had a civil cerimony at Quinta do Casal Novo, which is part of the same group as Our Quinta. It is a short 2 minute drive from Our Quinta, on top of the same hill.
The wedding happened on a weekday, which means that Quinta do Casal Novo had no wedding on the same day. That would be highly unlikely on a weekend though. The couple decided to have their civil ceremony at Quinta do Casal Novo because of the gorgeous view over the valley, where you can see vineyards and a white little town with a gorgeous white chapel on top of the hill. They liked the idea of combining the more romantic and classic historic venue of Quinta do Casal Novo with the more modern venue for the cocktail and party at Our Quinta. That combination gave them the best of both worlds.

Wedding at Our Quinta
Our Quinta is a recent venue. It was inaugurated in 2020, so that means that it only started operating regularly in 2021, because of the pandemic. The following year I photographed my first wedding there, Rose & Fellyph’s.
It is a beautiful venue, with views over the vineyards and a nicely decorated dinner room, perfect for mid-sized weddings. In fact, if the number of guests is less than 80 like in Rose & Fellyph’s, the size of the room is perfect!
The food at Our Quinta was also very tasty, they offered a wide range of food options and an extensive dessert buffet. To me that’s one of the most important aspects of the whole wedding experience. I’ve been to other beautiful venues that were let down by the catering. This was absolutely not the case!

One of the best venues for destination weddings in Portugal
Rose and Fellyph weren’t living in Portugal for long while they were already planning their wedding. As they were getting to know the country they were also trying to find the perfect place for their day. Even though it was challenging to plan a wedding by themselves in a country they still didn’t know well, it was also an adventure and they found it a fun way to explore the country and culture. They found that 2022 was an extremely busy year for weddings, so that didn’t make it easier. Their hardest choice was choosing the right spot for their wedding. They visited several venues and Our Quinta felt like the perfect match to their motto of “Boas Ondas” (meaning good vibes in Portuguese).
In fact, Our Quinta was built with smaller weddings in mind. The typical Portuguese wedding has many guests, unlike most destination weddings. Because of that, most wedding venues in Portugal have large dining rooms. I’ve been to countless small weddings in big venues, having left with the feeling that most of the space was empty – and it was!
Therefore there are few wedding venues in Lisbon that were thought from the ground up to accept small weddings. But Our Quinta also has the advantage of being close to Lisbon, plus rooms for the guests to stay in, nice vistas over the valley – and did I mention amazing food? Because of all of this, Our Quinta is definitely one of the best venues around Lisbon to have a small wedding.

The newlyweds spent their honeymoon in Brazil, visiting family and enjoying time at the beach. They also went on a second honeymoon (because one can never have too many honeymoons) in Switzerland, visiting a holiday house where Rose has spent most of her Christmasses.

If you liked my photography and find it different from the typical wedding photography, it might be because I’m very much into documentary photography – that means trying to catch the action as it happens, without staged moments or posing. This has led me to win several international awards over the years in sites like This is Reportage, dedicated exclusively to documentary wedding photography. You can see more weddings that I photographed in this page.
