Let me share with you a Unique Wedding in Lisbon. Why unique? First, it happened at a truly unique venue, more specifically a family villa in Lisbon called Quinta das Pintoras. Second, it was planned by Unique Weddings in Portugal, a wedding planner based in Lisbon that strives to make unique weddings. Third and most important, the couple, guests and wedding were unique to me! Doireann and John are an Irish couple that had planned to get married in Lisbon last year, but they had to postopne their wedding because of the Covid-19 pandemic – but more on that later!
First – and as always – a little black and white teaser!

An Irish Wedding in Portugal – Doireann & John
I have photographed many weddings – and loved them all! But I do enjoy those that are somehow different from the norm. Especially if they’re different from all the other ones I’ve photographed. In a word: Unique!
And that’s how Doireann and John’s wedding was: they had a wedding celebrant and not many guests. They got married at a gorgeous venue in Lisbon. All the guests were Irish. It was a week day. There was singing irish songs and dancing. A wedding different from the other ones I shot. Unique.

Quinta das Pintoras
Quinta das Pintoras is a family villa in Lisbon. The family actually lives there and they have very few events per year. I’ve honestly shots and many dozens of venues and this was easily one of my favourites!

Doireann got ready at a hotel in Cascais, with her mother, father and sister. She then got to the venue on a vintage car, taking the scenic road by the coast. It ended up being a good decision, because the traffic in Lisbon at the end of the afternoon can be a nightmare!

An Irish evening
The typical Portuguese wedding has some drinking, a lot of food and dancing. Even it if is a small wedding. And from my experience with Irish weddings, they’re not too different! However, this one was!
Yes, there was a lot of food. But it didn’t get a lot of attention. Yes there was some drinking – but there was a little accident (see image below). But what I found unique (am I repeating this word too much?) was the family sitting around the room, not only chatting but also singing Irish songs and dancing. It was very special and I’m happy to have been there. It’s one of those little moments that I could only have access being a photographer and that’s one of the many reasons why I love my job!
